Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy, also known as sclerosant therapy, is a non surgical, pain management technique administered by IMI’s trained Naturopathic doctors. Prolotherapy is where a substance (sugar/alcohol combination) is injected into ligaments and tendons stimulating an influx of fibroblasts (healing cells in the ligaments) that can significantly reduce pain and swelling of the affected area.
Prolotherapy derived from the word proliferation which means "to cause to grow", has been in used since 1939 for the treatment of pain.
Indications
- Injury to ligaments and tendons causing pain: back pain, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, Achilles tendonitis, patellar tendonitis etc.
- Excessive joint movement causing pain
- Persistent muscle tightness around joints
