Welcome to the September issue of Illuminations
This issue includes an article on fall cleansing and detoxification with a wonderful recipe by Nancy Crites our nutritional consultant. What makes Nancy's approach to nutrition so unique is the combination of energetic (Traditional Chinese Medicine) principles WITH biochemical needs. This integrative approach to nutrition offers a much more customized approach to each individual and reflects the philosophy of IMI. The Integrative Medicine Institute is also very excited to offer a new service called "Facial Acupuncture" by Angela Merlo (Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine). Angela is currently offering a end of summer rate for this service - call in for details. With fall just around the corner, now is the perfect time to think about detoxifying. Toxicity is of much greater concern in the twentieth century than ever before. We are exposed to dangerous chemicals through polluted food, air and water, we use more prescription drugs, eat more refined foods and sugar, abuse ourselves daily with various stimulants and sedatives. The incidence of many diseases of toxicity has increased as well. Cardiovascular disease and cancer and are two of the big ones; obesity, arthritis, hormone imbalances, allergies, and many skin problems are others. Symptoms such as fatigue, gastrointestinal issues, headaches, coughs, chronic pain and illness can be also be related to toxicity. Everyone needs to detoxify, cleanse themselves, and give their system a break from time to time, spring and fall are natural times to clean house. Detoxification is the process of clearing toxins from the body, neutralizing or transforming them, and clearing excess mucus and congestion from the body. Digestive distress, constipation, reduced liver function, and poor elimination through the kidneys, respiratory tract, and skin all add to increased toxicity. Eating a pure and natural diet along with the avoidance of chemicals, refined food, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and many drugs helps minimize the toxic load. Drinking plenty of pure water and increasing fiber by including more organic fruits, vegetables and whole grains in the diet are important steps in the detoxification process. It is also important to avoid saturated and hydrogenated fats, canned and refined foods, red meats, cured meats, sugar, salt, coffee, alcohol, and nicotine. There are many ways to detoxify. You can begin a detoxification program which includes a diet plan along with supporting herbs or homeopathics. It is imperative that during the detoxification process the body's doors of elimination are open, allowing the toxins to exit the body in a safe and easy manner. When professionally designed and monitored, cleansing will be very effective, and symptoms will be minimal. Your system will be rebalanced and you will feel renewed! Some of the benefits of a cleanse include weight loss, increased energy, balanced hormones, improved mood, clearer thinking, and a stronger immune system. Discover how gentle and easy a cleanse can be when it it designed just for you and supervised by a professional! NOW OFFERING: FACIAL REJUVENATION ACUPUNCTURE!! What is it? Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is the focal point of our new facial rejuvenation program for promoting optimal beauty from the inside, out. It is a painless, non-surgical method for decreasing the signs of the aging process. The treatment involves the insertion of hair-like needles into specific areas of the face and body, these points are along acupuncture meridians/channels which carry qi (energy). Each point is chosen to manipulate the body’s Qi to achieve a desired result depending on individual needs, to promote health and of course beauty! Thousands of years ago the Chinese discovered that many meridians begin or end on the face. The vibrancy of our looks or lack thereof is very telling to the Chinese Medicine Practitioner. In Chinese medicine bags under the eyes, jowls, sagging eyelids, ruddy complexion, wrinkles etc. all mean something about the wellness of the body as a whole~ therefore this program's aim is ultimately to promote vibrant internal health with the side effect of younger looking, healthier, glowing beauty on the outside! How does the program work? In your first meeting with the Doctor you will: ~ Discuss your goals regarding the program ~ Receive a health assessment using TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) principles ~ Receive your first facial rejuvenation acupuncture session In your second meeting you will: ~ Be given your comprehensive lifestyle program including a specialized and personalized herbal formula, diet and lifestyle suggestions and possibly recommendations on supplementation all depending on your own specific needs Thereafter: ~ Facial acupuncture treatments will be given weekly or biweekly ~ Continued monitoring of your progress and alteration of the program as needed What is the course of treatment? Ten to twelve treatments are recommended to achieve lasting results. Following the initial course of treatment maintenance sessions are recommended and can be done every few weeks to once a year. Does it really work? A report in the International Journal of clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with Facial Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. The effects included: improved elasticity, leveling of wrinkles, tightening of the skin in general, strengthening of the facial muscles and overall rejuvenation and sense of well being~ not confined to the face. People with certain pituitary disorders, heart conditions, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, pacemakers, problems with bleeding or bruising, migraines, pregnancy, during a cold or flu, during an allergic attack or during an acute herpes outbreak should not receive Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture Please call and book in with Angela for a more detailed discussion of what to expect from Facial Acupuncture, the alternative to facelifts and surgery |
